What the checker actually measures

Background uniformity is the statistical spread of brightness in the ring of pixels around your head — a flat wall reads under 9, wall texture and shadows read far higher. Lighting balance compares the left and right edges of the frame, which is how a single-sided lamp gets caught. Head height is derived from the subject outline against the background and converted into millimetres using your route's printed photo size, then compared with the published head-height range.

Recency and retouching come from the file's own metadata: the capture timestamp and the software tag. A file written by a beautification app fails here even when it looks fine, because the biometric template no longer matches the person.
